Team Kate's

Art Team

Kate’s artistic team practices several days per week, performs twice yearly in special shows at the rink, and competes across the Southeast in all aspects of figures, dance, singles, and precision team. Each year, Team Kate’s sends numerous skaters to the National Championships.

Instructor Nekoe Bucker

Nekoe started skating at age 1, and started coaching in San Jose, CA, while training under a world team coach and has been coaching for almost 17 years. She has trained in all types of different events in figure skating such as:
Loops,  Figures,  American and International Dance, Freestyle,  and Free Dance.

She has many National Achievements such as, 4 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal, and 1 Bronze Medal.

Nekoe’s objective as a coach is to promote positive self-esteem, encourage kids and adults of all ages to do something active that they enjoy and create a sense of accomplishment. Skating is the best way to do that.

Fundraising

The team holds several fund raisers throughout the year to defray competition expenses for the team.  The biggest and most fun are the shows that are organized by our coach, Nekoe Buckner.  We are blessed with a creative and FUN coach who really knows how to put together an entertaining program!  The program is held in the fall.

Competitions

Skaters wishing to compete must register with the national office by purchasing an amateur card. A copy of the birth certificate is required to register the first time but does not have to be sent in each year when the card is renewed. The competitive season runs in conjunction with the calendar year.

Invitationals are held throughout the skating season, culminating in the summer with the Regional and National competitions. Our region, the Southeastern region, is “open”, meaning you do not have to qualify to skate Regionals by placing at the State level. A skater must qualify to skate Nationals by placing in the Regional competition.  Come join the FUN!

The United States is divided into Regions. Each region qualifies a maximum of 3 skaters per event for the USAC (standard) events and a maximum of 4 skaters per event for the Junior Olympic (JO) events.
